The tee from the front, laid flat.

after twenty-five washes

The tee after a single wash, laid flat — collar, shoulders and hem square.
1st wash
The same tee after twenty-five washes, laid flat in the same position — collar and hem still square, the colour very slightly softened.
25th wash

same shirt, same position, twenty-four washes apart. the colour softens a little. the collar and the hem don't move — that's the pre-shrink and the taped seams doing their job.

what makes it different

240gsm combed cotton

heavy enough to hold its shape off the shoulder, light enough for a Bengaluru afternoon. combed, so the short fibres that pill are gone before it's knitted.

boxy, dropped shoulder

cut wide and short rather than long and slim — the seam sits on your arm, not on the point of your shoulder, so it falls straight instead of pulling.

ribbed collar, taped seams

the collar is knitted ribbing rather than folded jersey, and the shoulder seam is taped. those two are what stop a tee going wavy at the neck.

pre-shrunk

washed before it was cut, so the size you buy is the size you keep. see the twenty-fifth wash above.

how it's made

knitted and sewn in Tiruppur, in a factory we've been to. the cotton is Indian, the dyeing is done in-house, and the run is small — a few hundred pieces a colour, not a container. nothing about that makes it cheaper; it makes it a shirt whose maker we can name.
